GROUP B

Saturday 7/21/2012 Anchors vs Sidney Smashers at Lower Garden Acres, Longmont - Reported by Adithya Borra(Anchors)

Anchors pulled off a comprehensive win against a competitive Sidney Cricket Club in their third match of the season. It was an all-round performance, led by an 41-run partnership for the third wicket between Raj Veeramani and Ravi Dixit which set them to a competitive 103 before a combined bowling effort sealed the game.

A score of 103 is normally considered slightly above par in these conditions, but Anchors made it a winning total by creating opportunities by sound ground fielding, effecting a total of four run-outs and not giving Sidney Cricket Club any leeway. Anchors recorded their third consecutive win in as many games and now hold the top spot.

Sidney Cricket Club (Cabelas) won the toss and chose to bowl. Anchors lost their big hitter from the previous match in the first over who tried to clear the boundary but could only find the fielder at long-on. Anchors made the right move by promoting the experienced Raj up the order to No.3. However, their most dependable batsman Das was dismissed in the third over in the form of Hit-Wicket. Next came the consistent Dixit, who combined well with Raj to boost the scoring. Raj scored 23 and Dixit scored 20. Some power hitting in the end from Rajiv, Vivek and Adithya lifted the score to a competitive 103. Avinash was the most successive bowler for Cabelas picking up four wickets.

Chasing a score of 103, Cabelas were never comfortable right from the beginning. Anchors took wickets at regular intervals and maintained the pressure. Das and Vimal bowled an excellent spell in the first ten overs followed by Bharath missed the opportunity of taking the first Hat-Trick of the season. Vimal was completely economical with figures of 4-1-6-2. In the end, Anchors won by a margin of 35 runs. Krishna was the top scorer from Cabelas with 26 runs.
