2016 CTCL - T20 Weekly Report - Wk4

Immortals Vs Scorpions

It was another Sunny and bright morning. Immortals came into match with 2 wins in 2 games and expected to give good fight to Scorpions but at the end it was one sided match due to Scorpions excellent batting bowling performance.
Scorpions won the toss and chose to bat first.

Innings 1:
Scorpions started their innings with Satish and Parag and they have given a brilliant and exceptional start to their innings (probably the best start so far). Parag and Satish used the pitch conditions in Erie ground and scored the runs very fast. Parag was dominant and he played to his full potential and dominated Immortals bowlers. Satish got out in 6th over and Sudhir joined Parag and they both continued the momentum and Sudhir also played very sensible innings (29 runs) in the match. Parag was batting brilliantly but got run out in 9th over and scored 36 runs. Scorpions were 78/2 at the end of 10 overs. Vikram and Sudhir continued the innings till 16 overs and built a partnership of 56 runs between them and both got out in 17th over. At the end of 17 overs Scorpions scored 132/4. It was Atif and Rajesh turn to finish off the innings high and they both batted brilliantly and especially Rajesh played exceptional innings of 45 runs in just 14 balls. In 18th over Rajesh scored 29 runs off Sanket bowling with proper cricketing shots and played all the shots effortlessly. Rajesh managed to score 6 fours and 2 sixes in his brisk innings. Due to his strong finish Scorpions managed to score 60 runs in last 3 overs to finish the innings with high score of 192/5 in 20 overs (highest score for Scorpions so far).

Innings 2:
Immortals were under huge pressure to chase high score of 192 and they started their innings with Daswanth and Vaibhav. Scorpions started their bowling attack with usual combination Chida and Abhishek. Chida bowled brilliant first over and he was right on target with full length balls. Abhishek took first wicket in his first over to give first break to Scorpions. Sanket joined Daswanth and they both tried to score quick runs and got few runs in 4th and 5th overs. Rajesh took the wicket of Sanket in 6th over to get his first wicket and gave a huge break through to Scorpions. Chida bowled his 4th over brilliantly and took wicket of Daswanth in his last ball to restrict Immortals to 41/3 at the end of 7 overs. Scorpions bowled brilliantly after that to get a wicket in almost each over and Rajesh bowled exceptional spell to grab 3 wickets for just 10 runs and Satish bowled as usual and grabbed 2 wickets in overs. Abhishek grabbed 2 wickets in second spell to get 3 wickets under him. Immortals were 82/9 at the end of 16 overs. Ravi bowled 17th over and took the last wicket of Immortals to finish the innings. Atif took 7 catches behind the wickets in this match to break his own record of 6 catches. It was brilliant performance by bowlers to give a huge victory to Scorpions with 109 runs margin.
Rajesh was given Man of the match due to his brilliant batting and bowling.
Umpires did great job and there were no issues in the match.

Cheetahs Vs Anchors
Cheetahs were playing on the back of a loss and needed to win against a heavy-weight Anchors team batting all the way down to 11. Anchors won the toss and Bharath had no hesitation in batting first.
Cheetahs started well in bowling with Deepak bowling excellent line and length. Runs leaked from the other end until Prerit and Satyam took over to put a stop to the run flow. Sandeep and Soori played well to take the score to 142. Cheetahs were pretty happy with restricting the score to below 150 in Erie against such a big Anchors batting line-up.
Cheetahs started slowly but Satyam (31) and Pradeep (47) batted brilliantly to take Cheetahs within striking distance of the target. Manjeet came in and hit some of the biggest sixes seen in Colorado to hit the fastest half-century in CTCL (51 runs off 15 balls) and finished the chase in a hurry with 20 balls to spare.
Cheetahs won convincingly with 7 wickets and 19 balls to spare. Manjeet Inamdar was the MoM for his fastest half century.

Buffs Vs Foco Devils
Playing without team captain, Amarjit and star all-rounder, Murali didn’t faze the Buffs as they locked down another victory against FoCo Devils on Sunday securing the second position in the points table.
Buffs won the toss and elected to bat first to take advantage of the ground conditions. Buffs started off really well with the opening pair Rohit and Sumeet scoring runs at a good pace. Rohit continued his great form by smashing 36 runs off 23 balls which included 4 sixes hit over the square leg boundary. He got caught out while trying to play another pull shot. Sumeet (16) followed Rohit back to the pavilion in the next over as he was caught behind. Despite losing two quick wickets, middle order batsmen Subbu and Shiril kept the momentum going and played some beautiful strokes in the covers area. Before FoCo devils’ bowlers could gauge their mistakes, the run rate had already reached over 9 at the end of the first half.
Buffs were comfortably poised at 95 for 2 when they resumed after the break. A target of 180/190 looked possible as Subbu (31 off 21, 4x3, 6x1) continued a showcase of his batting prowess. However, things got a little interesting as Anshuman clean bowled Shiril in the 12th over. Subbu's unstoppable inning was also put to an end by Sidesh who did a good job with bringing some variation into his last over. FoCo devils made a huge come back by picking up wickets at regular interval. Anurag(2-9) and Sourabh(3-11) bowled amazingly well as they didn't let any Buffs batsman to get into double digits. Buffs got all out for 133 in 19.3 overs.
Chasing an average total of 133, openers Swapnil and Gandhar got FoCo Devils off to a brisk start as Swapnil hit a couple biggies in the first over of Kaushik. There wasn't much support from the other end either, as Gandhar hit a couple boundaries in Ranga's over as well. Swapnil and Gandhar kept the scorer busy for a while until Sumeet removed Swapnil with a quick yorker. Gandhar was also sent back in the next over as Vinay got him caught behind the stumps. FoCo Devils lost wickets after regular intervals courtesy to the disciplined bowling performance by Shivraj and Vinay. Shivraj clean bowled three of FoCo's batsmen as all of them became victim of the pace. Subhashish did an amazing job by taking five brilliant catches behind the stumps. Some great feilding by Rohit and Shivraj got rid of the lasts of FoCo's batting. FoCo Devils got all out in the 17th over falling short by 30 runs.
Even though Buffs didn't post a big target on the board , they were able to pull the match towards them due to their efforts in fielding and bowling departments. Shivraj was given the MoM for his brilliant bowling figures.
MoM: Shivraj
Other mentions: Rohit (36), Subbu (31 and 5 catches), Vinay (3 wickets)
