2016 CTCL - T20 Weekly Report - Wk7

CSU Rams Vs Anchors

CSU Rams were on a high after their win against Scorpions and now they had a tough task against a formidable team in the form of Anchors. And they had to travel to Denver on an early Saturday face-off. CSU Rams won the toss and chose to field.

Anchors opened their batting with Praveen and Prasad who found it tough against Srinivas Reddy and Sagar Bijjam. They got off to a really slow start and managed just four runs in the first two overs. Prasad having gotten shackled tried to loft one over mid-off against the bowling of Srinivas and gave a simple catch to Avinash. Srinivas followed on to bowl a wicket-maiden over. Sandeep came in but before he could settle Praveen got run out to a brilliant pick up and throw to the keeper by Srivathsan and the score just read 11-2 in almost the end of 6th over. Suresh was next but he too found it tough to score runs but they managed to pull off few sneaky singles while Sandeep on the other end scored a six and a boundary to finish off the midway point in the innings. Sagar Chandra standing in as keeper for Vihari dropped Suresh when he was barely getting settled much to the frustration of the Rams but made up for it after the break by taking a skier from Suresh off the bowling of Srinivas who was brought back to break the partnership which he did in style and also managed to bowl another wicket-maiden over. Sachin did not trouble to scoring having gotten run out to a brilliant throw at the non-strikers end by wicket keeper Vihari running towards the short leg, picking it up and getting him run out. CSU Rams managed to pick up two wickets in two balls to top off double wicket maiden for the team off the bowling of Srinivas. Lalit also followed back to the pavilion after a Dhoni-esque thinking by Vihari to get him stump out and that got him a hat-trick of stumpings in as many matches. Dixit also got run out making CSU Rams pull off at least two run out every innings for the last few innings. Again CSU Rams managed two wickets in two balls making it their second time in the innings. CSU Rams bowling was up to the mark and well supported by everyone. Anchors managed to get to a par score of 59 getting bowled out in the process. Srinivas ended up with a mesmerizing bowling figures of 4 overs, 3 runs and 3 wickets with an economy of under a run. Yes you read it right! 0.75 runs per over. It was worthy to win any match. It is staggering that an individual can perform at such levels week in and week out, no matter what the arena is.

Having had to chase a meagre target of 60, Rams got off to a slow start from Rahul and Mani only for Mani to get out giving a simple catch to Sandeep when the score read 15 in 6 overs. Sagar Chandra walked in and stood still while Rahul at the other end accelerated the scoring. This did not happen for a while until an over from Praveen went for a superb six and a boundary from Rahul just before the break. Rahul was given three chances by Anchors by dropping easy catches. Rahul got out offering a stupid shot in order to be done with the match with just 9 runs to go and offering a simple catch to Sandeep who finally held onto one for the Anchors. He ended up with a high score of 35 off 46 balls. Sagar Chandra finished off the match with a six and a couple of runs and the Rams made the target having lost only 2 wickets with almost 6 overs to spare.

Srinivas without a shadow of a doubt was adjudged the Man of the Match much to the delight of even the Anchors. It was a complete all round performance by the Rams making the victory look very simple and are on a four game winning streak. CSU Rams now next play the Jaguars in what happens to be a mouthwatering clash considering their last meeting ended up in a tie in the previous edition.
