2016 CTCL - T20 Weekly Report - Wk10

CSU Rams Vs Eagles
It was a warm afternoon in Denver for the match between the Eagles and the table top seekers CSU Rams. Eagles won the toss and elected to bat and they got off to a worst possible start losing their opener Hari in the second over for just 1 on the scoreboard by Tom. CSU Rams bowling as expected was very tight and they did not give away cheap runs either. Eagles kept losing wickets at regular intervals and their run rate was at 2 in the first ten overs. Sridhar, Tom, Ravi and Srivathsan all bowled tight lines and kept picking up wickets whilst not letting extras either. Tom had an excellent spell picking up 3 wickets giving away just 8 runs. Amidst this bowling Mehul and Satya had other plans. They stayed at the crease waiting for bad balls and did a good job at increasing the run rate. Satya scored the only other boundary of Eagles’ innings. Mehul reached to 20 before he got out to Sridhar Reddy after Sridhar C appeared to have dropped the catch only for Avinash to follow up from the slips and take a peach of a catch. Satya remained not out as he made a quick fire 17 off 19 balls making the Eagles reach a respectable 63. Srinivas as usual had excellent bowling figures of 1 for 6 in his 4 overs but Tom was the highlight of the Rams bowling.
CSU Rams also got off to a worst possible start losing Mani in the first over without a score on the board. Sagar came in but Shashank at the other end took the initiative and scored some brisk runs. The controversy came in the 3rd over when Sagar came out of the crease at the non-strikers end before the ball was bowled and the bowler Satya ran him out. The umpire adhered and gave him out but after further consultation with the board, it was adjudged that Sagar should be given a warning and the decision was reversed. But that played on sagar’s mind who couldn’t gather his concentration as he was run out in the next over from a brilliant throw by Vishrut. Avinash came in and he did not trouble the score either. Shashank and Srivathsan stabilized the innings and had a good partnership of 26 with Shashank doing bulk of the scoring. Shashank managed to score wisely hitting the bad balls away and punishing the Eagles bowling. He stuck there and ensured the early wickets were just a hiccup. But Srivathsan got out when the score was 44 and the very next ball Shashank was retired out. Both the Sridhars came in but Sridhar Reddy scored a quick fire 12 off just 5 balls hitting a six and a boundary to reach the target in just 11 overs. Shashank top scored for the Rams scoring 27 off just 28 balls.
Rams once again showed that they are a force to reckon with getting a comfortable win with a second string side. Shashank and Tom were adjudged joint Man of the Match for their impressive performance with the bat and ball. Rams go into their next game facing the Foco Devils which happens to be the most looked at fixture of the league with the rivalry as big as Tom and Jerry (on the lighter note) with Rams winning the previous two meetings between the two. I bet the fixture signals the famous saying “WINTER IS COMING!!!”

Jaguars Vs Buffs
Jaguars won the toss and elected to field considering they had batted first for all T20 games so far. Buffs, on the other hand had lost only 1 game in the season. Sumeet & Waqas started off on a cautious note. However, Jaguars got an early breakthrough when Sumeet was sent back in the 3rd over. Shubhashish (29) ensured that no further wickets were lost and took the score to 47 with Waqas (23). Pankaj got Waqas caught by Venkatesh, who took a well-judged catch at deep mid-wicket. Murali continued the Buffs’ run chase with Shubhashish. Jaguars disciplined bowling in the form of Azim, Naveen, and Venkatesh kept the pressure on the Buffs batsmen. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and Buffs were able to muster 108 before folding on the first ball of the 20th over.
The target of 108 was going to be challenging to defend by Buffs considering the fast outfield of the Erie ground. And, a terrible start on the part of Jaguars almost instantly turned the tide in favor of Buffs. Mrugesh was out hit-wicket when he mistimed a big hit off of Ranga. Kaushik followed suit when he had Pankaj caught behind; and then Ranga struck again by getting Amol out in the same manner as Pankaj. Naveen didn’t show any signs of pressure and played freely with innovative shots all around. However, his stint was shortlived when Shivraj grabbed a brilliant catch on his onw bowling. Amit wasn’t able to make a significant contribution either. Ravi played the sheet anchor role and ensured no more wickets were lost. Azim tried to accelerate from the other end and hit a huge 6 to boost the Jaguars morale. Shanthi joined Ravi and dominated the Buffs bowling by scoring 26 NO. The duo was unstoppable and comfortably crossed the finish line with 3 overs to spare.
MoM: Ravi Sharma (33 NO)

Denver Stars Vs Denver Lions
Denver Lions won the toss and chose to bat first.
Denver stars bowled good lines and lengths. Denver Lions lost early wickets , the steady batting performance from their lower middle order helped them to post a target of 64 in 17.3 overs. Mayank top scored for Denver Lions with 25 runs with help of a solid 17 runs by Vinay Chandra.
Chasing 65 Denver stars scored at a steady pace . With Prudhvi vallem and Karun Godavarti’s 24 run 3rd wicket stand Denver stars cursed towards the victory . Denver stars chased target in 16 overs losing 5 wickets.
Sudheer CH was awarded man of the match for his Bowling performance.

RCC Vs Indian Hawks
Indian Hawks (IH) won the toss and elected to field first. They started their innings pretty well by taking 2 quick wickets by the end of 2nd over for 8 runs. Then after RCC batsmen Adarsh and Vikrant brilliantly played and carried the RCC innings coolly until 13 overs with 82 runs partnership by maintaining 7 per over run rate; that is where IH got break through by getting Vikrant out for 24 runs in 26; and getting Vikrant’s wicket did not help IH much though; runs were flourishing as Adarsh on one end scoring runs consistently and easily with his excellent shots and on other end the rest of the RCC batsmen smashed IH bowlers with big shots; thus all this together helped RCC to set big target for IH i.e. chase 163 in 20 overs.
IH started their innings but lost their first 2 wickets in the first over itself back to back; RCC bowler Satish bowled very well by taking 2 wickets in the inning’s fist over. IH lost their other 3 wickets at very regular intervals by scoring 65 runs at the end of 11 overs for 5 wickets. Then after Venkatesh and Rohit built decent partnership for 48 runs till 17th over; sooner after again IH lost wickets quickly and got all out for 123 in 19.4 overs. IH batsman Rohit played well by scoring 39 runs in 31 runs which helped IH to reach 123 run by the end of their innings.
Both teams played match in good spirits. Adarsh from RCC was declared as the Man of the Match for his great knock i.e. 64 runs in 51 balls with five 4s and 4 sixes.

After 10 overs Hari Prasad and Manikanda Prabhu built a good partnership and scored 36 form next 5 overs and tilted the momentum towards Chennai Warriors who need 38 runs in last 5 overs. Chaitanya bowled well to break the partnership but Hari Prasad kept scoring runs on the other side and Chennai Warriors were 88/6 after 17 overs. With 23 runs to win in 18 balls Chennai Warriors new batsmen in the crease started swinging and lost their wickets. Spartans bowler Chaitanya bowled well in the end with some good pace and yorkers and got 2 wickets in 19th over to win the game for Spartans. Chennai Warrior’s batsmen Hari Prasad played well for his 37*(32) and Spartans bowlers Chaitanya, Abhishikth got 3 wickets each.
